A fresh wave of political tension has gripped Ekiti State after suspected hoodlums set ablaze the Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), destroying property worth millions of naira just hours before a major party event.

The attack, which occurred overnight, gutted the building and destroyed thousands of plastic chairs meant for the ADC’s Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.

Videos posted on the party’s official Facebook page showed the secretariat engulfed in flames as party members lamented what they described as a “cowardly attempt to silence a rising force in Ekiti politics.”

In a strongly worded statement, the party accused political rivals of orchestrating the arson out of fear of the party’s growing grassroots influence.

“Our Party Secretariat was set ablaze this morning by those threatened by the rising momentum and formidable organisational structure that the Ekiti ADC is building,” the party said.

ADC Undeterred By Circumstances

Despite the attack, the party vowed to press ahead with its political programmes, declaring that no amount of intimidation would halt its movement.

“This cowardly act will only strengthen our unity. The Ekiti ADC remains unbroken and unstoppable,” the statement added.

Residents who witnessed the fire said the attackers struck around midnight, leaving behind smouldering ruins before fleeing into the dark.

As of press time, the Ekiti State Police Command had not issued an official statement, though officers were seen assessing the extent of the damage early Tuesday morning.

Party supporters have since launched an online campaign with the hashtag #EkitiADCUnbroken, urging security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
