President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, marking a decisive move to reinvigorate the nation’s security framework.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President said the changes were made “in furtherance of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the national security architecture.”

According to the statement titled “Tinubu Changes Service Chiefs,” the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

Other appointments include:

Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff

Air Vice Marshall S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff

Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence

President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership, commending their contributions to national security.

He charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them, urging them to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity across the Armed Forces.

The statement concluded that all appointments take immediate effect, signaling a bold new chapter in the administration’s commitment to securing the nation.
